Neron is a fictional character in the DC Comics' universe. Neron was a demon prince of great power, though he has been reduced to a lower station due to his actions.
History
Neron was a Demon Prince responsible for enhancing dozens of supervillains (and a few superheroes) in exchange for their immortal souls, during the Underworld Unleashed story arc. He would do so by 'tempting' them - offering something the victim would feel would be his or her heart's desire, in exchange for their soul (for example, when attempting to tempt Green Lantern Kyle Rayner, he offered to bring back his girlfreind, Alex DeWitt, from the dead). Neron was able to trick five supervillians into destroying a large area with a large explosion. When seen from the sky, the areas of the explosion related to the points of a pentagram, allowing him freer access to Earth. While he was on Earth, he made intent that he was after a 'pure soul' that he could corrupt. Most people thought that this referred to Superman, but his ultimate goal was the soul of Captain Marvel, though he was thwarted in that goal.
During the Day of Judgement storyline, he attempted to claim the Spectre-force for himself, which would have allowed him much more power and the ability to remain outside of Hell for good. However, the Spectre in the end instead chose Hal Jordan as its new human host. Neron was punished for using Hell's own power for his pleasure, and was last seen demoted to the position of Rhyming Demon, similar to Etrigan the Demon.
